For our second release we were moving towards a heavier sound. We had been writing new songs in Drop D. Rico and I decided to upgrade our Marshall heads a few months prior and went out and bought 2 brand new Mesa Dual Rectifier heads. The black chrome faced was probably one of the earlier prototype heads for it had no clean tone. All of the songs were tracked at Studio Apogee which had also been upgraded from the 2" tape machine to the Alesis ADATS. We decided to use the House Yamaha drum kit this time around. We were exploring the use of a sampler and had picked some samples from some VHS tapes. The opening sample for the track "Mephistopheles" was the beginning part of the Movie Prime Evil that our friend Elliot suggested we used. we had rented several movies from Kohnes video in Fremont during the recording process. The synthesizer orchestrations you hear on"Somethings", "A Walk in the Sun", and "Further that were made and sequenced on a Korg M1 that I bought about 6 months before going into the studio. All of the orchestrations were already programmed and planned out by myself and Larry before going into the studio.
